Overview

BIRAC and KIIT-TBI have partnered to build an enabling ecosystem for promoting entrepreneurship and technology development in the east and north east region of India under the BRTC program.

The aim of the regional centre is to identify and nurture start-ups as well as provide mentoring support to nascent incubators. It will provide a holistic platform to catalyze interactions between stakeholders in order to promote technology growth in the east and north east region of India, with special emphasis on empowering women entrepreneurs.

The BRTC program will also focus on mining the techno-commercial resource pool of East and North East region in order to address the prevailing gaps within the existing innovation ecosystem.

Vision

We are building a dynamic ecosystem of entrepreneurship and innovation that engages with a robust and enthusiastic network of support, including innovators, mentors, investors, funders, accelerators, and incubators. This program supports budding entrepreneurs across any discipline of biotechnology who want to innovative, think and start their own enterprise.

Impact so far

  • 700 + Innovators reached out through awareness programs to excite them about bio entrepreneurship and different funding opportunities of BIRAC available to promote innovation and product development.
  • 27 Innovative projects from North East and 90 from East were received for funding support from BIRAC under the scheme “Biotechnology Ignition Grant” Call 15.
  • Forged collaboration with 5 institutes from East and North East for promoting entrepreneurship and technology development.
  • Amplified biotech entrepreneurial ecosystem in Shillong, Agartala, Assam, Chhattisgarh and Kolkata.
  • Promoting establishment of Bioincubators with the support of BIRAC at Tripura University, NEIST Jorhat, Pt Ravi Shankar University, Raipur.
  • 15+ Innovators were provided one-on-one mentoring sessions for idea development and raising funding through 2 days extensive training workshop.
  • 50+ Innovators in regional centres for education including colleges, universities and research institutions registered as “ BRTC volunteers” to promote innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
